Women in Tech is a global movement that aims to empower and support women in the technology industry. The event, “The Network Effect: Building Women’s Tech Communities,” brought together inspiring panelists who shared their insights on the importance of community, collaboration, and fostering growth.

The speakers passionately emphasized that being a woman shouldn’t be perceived as a disadvantage but as an inherent source of strength and power. To accomplish extraordinary feats, one must start with unwavering self-belief in their capabilities.

Lorena Tomás, our co-CEO, was happy to participate in this event and highlighted what impacted her most. Let’s get to the key takeaways of wisdom from these remarkable women.

Innovation and Empowerment

Kerty Levy, Managing Director at Techstars, spoke passionately about the transformative power of innovation and female empowerment. She believes in making the world a better place through innovation and encourages women to recognize their capabilities and have confidence in their potential for success as business owners or in significant company positions.

Despite the male-dominated tech market, Kerty emphasized not being deterred by numerical disadvantages. She instilled the belief that anyone can succeed regardless of the odds, urging participants to take the initiative and pursue their goals fearlessly.

The ‘Give First’ Mindset

Lori Rodriguez, Chief Digital Advisor Global & US Chapter President at Women in Tech and Bestselling Author, advocates for the “Give First” philosophy. She urges everyone to contribute selflessly and create value for others without expecting anything in return. Adding a touch of humor to her wisdom, Lori emphasizes the significance of enjoying the journey and having fun along the way. After all, authentic relationships are the heartbeat of success in any industry.

So, don’t just focus on transactions, but understand that work is about building connections with people. Start by delivering, giving, and contributing to others, and that’s where true success lies.

Defining Community

Melis Dural, Founder & CEO of EKOS.AI, talked about the concept of community. According to her, it’s about sharing, connecting, and embracing diverse perspectives while fostering a sense of belonging. A true community is a space where individuals lift each other higher, and Melys re-emphasized the importance of genuine interactions and selfless giving without any hidden agendas.

Paving the Way for Meaningful Dialogue

No event is complete without an exceptional mediator; this one was no exception. Dasha Shunina, the skillful moderator and Event Director at Women in Tech, gracefully navigated the discussions, extracting the essence of each participant’s knowledge and insights. By creating a natural and engaging environment, she encouraged everyone to participate actively, making the event a great experience.

The event’s core message was clear – united, empowered, and with a “give first” mindset, women in tech can break barriers. Building strong communities and supporting one another can create a network effect that positively impacts the entire industry.

Women in technology are not alone. Together, women can achieve greatness and pave the way for a more diverse, innovative, and inspiring future for generations to come. The network effect is real, and it starts with collective efforts.
